OG Spliff - PRE ROLL
Pre Roll is a dope, rooted Hip hop EP released on September 13th, 2021 by Winston-Salem artist OG Spliff featuring 8 tracks that total 20 minutes and 47 seconds. The project opens with “rise2018 / GO! - intro”; the first half of it is in a mellow, reflective tone. The second half, which was dropped as a single a few months ago, is laid-back, yet the lyrics are woke and aware, as he says such things as “...[t]hey wanna charge for the anti-depressant...”. Following that track is “free da blocc (big ol’)” featuring Bushi Vibes and Grizzy the Great. It is lush and grimy, with snapping bars along with a brash, fierce feature. On the track, the two talk about their lives, lifestyles, and more. After this comes “STILL”, a super fresh and sonorous track with features from Sonny Miles and Lesthegenius. Sonny comes with a melodic performance, while Lesthegenius goes in more of a quick and cutting direction vocally. All of the vocals on the track are pained, wise, and profound. It also has a very cinematic, rich music video directed by UNDERRATEDVIEWS. After that comes ST NICK, a serene and beautiful cut featuring stark, solemn lyrics such as “...[l]ost in the abyss of it all…” as well as moody, harmonious vocals from Flower in Bloom. Next up is “LUV ME”, an upbeat, hype track featuring TiaCorine, who delivers a strong, colorful verse. Following this is “MUD”, which is a tuneful, introspective track featuring Flower in Bloom, who delivers a performance that is both melodically and lyrically sound, and Larry Murvin, who contributes a low, thought-provoking verse. The track is reflective of some of the struggles that the three artists face, both in and out of music. Afterward is “soul rebel - interlude”, which is a skit of some people hanging out and talking, having a good time. Lastly is “baby boy”, a vibey, trill track with lyrics that are insightful and narrative; it also has cool samples. This track has a music video as well, it is unique and vibrant, and directed by Bosha novART. Overall, the EP is a cohesive project with excellent work in all musical fields.
