Marshmello, Polo G, Southside - Grown Man

Damn. I know a cultural moment when I see (or hear) one. Listening to energizing EDM songs from Marshmello as an adolescent (let me put y'all on), hearing aggressive Trap beats from Southside (you know this one) as an older teen, and resonating with the words of Polo G as a young adult (this one is gr8); all of these creators have come together with this one, and in a way that really resonates with a younger side of myself. Watching the music video, we see Capalot cutting up and running game with his teacher and classmates.

They also display a cool scene of a show where they’re all performing with some interesting subtext going on as well (the interactions between the teacher and the classmate). All of this speaks to the message of the song, or at least my perception of it: being a young man and feeling ready to take on all that this world has to offer. Additionally, the video features some really funny snippets at the end with some dialogue about who is really under that black-and-white dead-eye mask of Marshmello’s. Overall, the song is great, with an infectiously catchy melody, addictive drums, and a well-spat verse from Capalotti about his lifestyle and happenings. We also get to see Southside performing as a teacher lmao, that was great.

P.S.: The video also does a great job of portraying adolescence in my opinion; for example, the girl with blonde dreads is shown struggling with social awkwardness, appearance, rejection, etc.
