Drake - Search & Rescue

Drake is a colossal force in the music industry. The release of Search and Rescue” has created a huge buzz among fans, who are surprised and delighted at the release. Not an avid Drake fan, news of the release reached me through social media and my friends. With a release date of April 7th and a lengthy runtime of 4 minutes and 32 seconds, the single sports an ethereal beat with a haunting piano melody. Produced by SADPONY and BNYX, the latter being an up-and-coming producer who has worked with the likes of Lancey Foux and Yeat, the beat is reminiscent of much of Drake’s music. It has simple, laid-back drums which lend to a chill and meditative listening experience. The piano paired with Drake’s lyrics and vocal melody creates a brooding tone I love. I was surprised and impressed by the lyrics, as the subject is surprisingly to the point. Music that has a message that’s easy to understand is always more alluring to me on the first listen; it instantly captures my attention.

The middle caught me off guard, however. “I didn’t come this far just to come this far and not be happy. Remember that” in a female voice is what we hear at 1:05. It turns out this is a clip from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, in which Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner are talking about something, I’m guessing it had something to do with Kim’s divorce with Kanye. This adds an interesting bit of depth. Overall, the track is incredibly impactful and cohesive, and a Drake W in my opinion.
