Jordan Hawkins - Heart Won’t Stop

Jordan Hawkins - Heart Won't Stop

Heart Won’t Stop is a rich seven-track debut EP by Jordan Hawkins. The soulful R&B project was released on October 27th, 2021 and it runs for 28 minutes and 37 seconds. It starts out on a very strong note, opening up with the slow, romantic cut “We Have”. The track has wonky synths, funky bass, and beautiful, sincere vocals from Jordan. It is essentially a canvas where he is painting a picture of what he wants his relationship with his partner to look like, in a very thankful, aware, and tender manner. The next track, “Risky” is in a higher tempo with more catchy, specular moments: snappy drums, star-studded, melodic vocals, rhythmic, exciting riffs, and a super hypnotic melody and bass. He discusses all of the exciting potential becomings as well as risks of pursuing a relationship on this one in a spectacular manner.

This leads to the third track on the EP, “Slow Down”, which is a moody, heavy love song with dreamy, smooth synths, flowy, staccato vocals, and an overall airy feeling. On the track, he revisits the current state of the relationship that he is involved in with this person that he is interested in, outlining how he feels about it, and how he does not want to take things slow, and that they will just figure it out as they go. Bringing us to the fourth track and midpoint of the project, “Honey”, which is a mellow, warm Summertime banger. The heavy bass, huge riff, and pleasant lead along with Jordan’s light, sweet vocals create a wonderful, tropic vibe. This is not even to mention the melodically sound and lyrically rich feature from EARTHGANG. The track acts as a sweet love letter to the person that he is interested in. Following that is “Make Me Feel”, which is a deep, experimental track with unique chords, an amazing melody, vibrant drums, and heartful lyrics. On the track, he talks about the various things and ways that this love interest of his makes him feel, and the thoughts that come along with that.

After that comes “Heart Won’t Stop”, which is a soulful, spiritual track with a wide array of instruments creating a huge feeling and sound which are very easy on the ears, and uplifting for the spirit, the vocals accompany this as he sings about his hopes and fears in an endearing tone. The closing track of Heart Won’t Stop comes in the form of “Thankful - Extended”. This one is a long-form track that is cinematic and sonically pleasing. It forms a letter between Jordan and his love interest, as he sings about the many things that this person has done for him, and how he is grateful for them. The feature from Lish serves to extend this and create sort of a narrative. Overall, the EP is a very concise, action-packed collection of songs that cover many topics that boggle us down as humans, and it does so in a way that is mature, realistic, and from the heart.
