Playboi Carti drops “I AM MUSIC”

Playboi Carti drops his long-awaited album I AM MUSIC, behind a blood moon eclipse (worm moon)

MUSIC was released officially on March 14th, 2025, around the same time as the Blood Worm Moon eclipse (did bro pay NASA for marketing?) With 30 songs and a total runtime of 1 hour and 16 minutes, I AM MUSIC does a lot with a little, compressing a wide range of sounds and moods into a time frame that does not feel annoying to sit through.

Lancey Foux – LIFE IN HELL

The album cover for Lancey Foux’s October 2022 Alternative Rap album LIFE IN HELL.

LIFE IN HELL by Lancey Foux is a vibrant voyage through this entrancing 1-hour and 5-minute soundscape; a journey of emotional turmoil, inner conflict, and learned lessons. And for me, it was quite inspirational and influential. I was cruising down the Blue Ridge Parkway into the late hours of the night, getting lost in the sounds and the scenery. I felt free. I felt alive. I feel as though many of the things he said really hit home for me, making me consider my own life and who I am. This colossal 22-track album is labeled as “Alternative Rap”, which is accurate. It is a very progressive and different sound and thrives on this uniqueness. This is nothing new to Lancey either, along with executive producer Jay Trench and other collaborators; they are crafting a genuine, genre-breaking sound. This unapologetic dare to be different is displayed throughout his other projects as well. FRIEND OR FOUX and Pink II are great, to name a couple. Though even dating back to 2015’s Pink where he was freestyling over YouTube Trip Hop type beats for fun in his bedroom, this fun-filled approach that he takes to his music has always been there.

Ken Carson – A Great Chaos (Deluxe)

ATL Atlanta underground Opium rap rapper hip hop artist Ken Carson releases A Great Chaos Deluxe with the help of rap producers Clif Shayne , Nick Spiders , Bart How , lil88

I thought “A Great Chaos” was an awesome album. It’s a culmination of the dark Opium-style rap that has been developing since the release of Playboi Carti’s “Whole Lotta Red”. The album showcases all elements of Ken’s style, to his bass-heavy bangers to his more lyrical tracks.

LIFE IN HELL by Lancey Foux is a vibrant voyage through this entrancing 1-hour and 5-minute soundscape; a journey of emotional turmoil, inner conflict, and learned lessons.

JID – The Forever Story

Sitting at 15 tracks spread over 59 minutes and 12 seconds, The Forever Story by JID gives us so much without overstaying its welcome. It was released on August 26th, 2022. I classify this album as Hip hop, although it veers in so many directions, taking influence from multiple genres and creating a rich pool of sounds. The Atlanta native uses his emcee abilities, along with the aid of other artistic techniques to build an immersive soundscape, all telling one giant story.

Summrs – FALLEN RAVEN

FALLEN RAVEN is Summrs’ passionate new 23-piece Hip hop project. Released on June 27th, 2022, this massive project runs for 54 minutes and 33 seconds. It is full of melodies that range from banging and aggressive—with “Dont Mean Shit” for example, which hits with hard bass and an unchained synth progression—all the way to slow and somber, on cuts like “Dear Mom”. The track features a plethora of content, both musically and lyrically. He goes into elaborate detail about topics such as his lifestyle, struggles, family, and more.

MuddyMya – MUDDYWORLD V2

MUDDYWORLD V2 is a supercharged, euphoric Hip hop project from rising superstar MuddyMya. At 10 songs, the project contains 25 minutes and 1 second of exciting, head-rushing thrills and stimulation. Executive produced by boundless right-hand producer OK, the beats on this track have just as much energy as they do substance; between the moody, dynamic synth melodies, the hard-hitting, low fidelity drums, and the dissonant sound effects, the only way I know how to describe them is lysergic.

Future – I NEVER LIKED YOU

I NEVER LIKED YOU is one of my favorite Future albums. Released on May 2nd, 2022, it encompasses all of my favorite aspects of Future’s music. While the album integrates many styles not normally associated with Future, such as RnB, the general feel of the album is refreshingly energetic and exhilarating. The album begins with an eerie instrumental intro. Future then enters with a head-banging flow, reasserting himself as a titan of hip-hop; a “God on the earth” in his own words.
