Little Blue House” is the latest offering from Dylan Innes, a North Carolina-native singer-songwriter. The track, released on December 10th, 2021, is serene and reflective. It sees the artist stuck in a state of uncertainty and introspection, as he grapples with the question of what we have once our weekend ends. This is a significant question to ponder, as it is true, we live our lives and have fun, and then what? We are left with nothing to show, and feel empty. Then he admits, in a moment of emotional honesty, that all that he feels is his will weakening. He also goes into topics like tattoos, and how he may get one just to impress people. On a similar note, he brings up smoking, and how he does not usually smoke, but he does for the same reason as the tattoos, to impress people. The point that he makes here about doing things just to impress people is very relevant, and I am sure that we have all been there at some point. Sometimes when you feel like you don’t fit in, it is only natural to want to and to do something just for an image to feel a sense of belonging. This is especially prevalent in college, as it is a time when many of us are finding ourselves, and with that comes a lot of isolation. The song also has a music video on his distribution group’s channel, Unrecordings.

The chorus of the song is sweet, simplistic, and acts as a kind of resolution to the primary question of the song. He has made some new friends. The instrumental for the track consists of a floating, slow guitar melody, a moody bassline, an airy chord, and some light drums, as well as some nice, groovy riffs and a soothing lead in there. The vocals are tranquil and compliment the instrumental very well. All of these elements tie the song together with the subject matter, making the thought-provoking lyrics digestible, and the song cohesive. Dylan has performed at many shows, such as the Homeplace New Year’s Eve show, many shows at Ransom, Boone Saloon, and Legends, which are all in Boone, as well as The Pour House in Raleigh. Be sure to go and stream “Little Blue House” on all platforms and see him perform!
