Alexis Major and Karim Butler from Gumbo Brands recently unveiled their collab with Gervonta "Tank" Davis called Ape Shit Gumbo

Gumbo Brands hosted a huge 4/20 Pop-Up and Live Concert with Moneybagg Yo, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, and more. They also did a collab with UFC Champion Gervonta Davis, and released a Gumbo-flavored Rap Snack!

Gumbo is a culture-conscious cannabis company. They are family-run and black-owned. The brand recently hosted a huge festival on 4/20 and some prolific artists showed up. Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Jadakiss, Moneybagg Yo, Chinese Kitty, Lola Brooke, YTB Fatt, and Tripstar to name a few.

Gumbo Brands makes 100% legal hemp products such as their disposables and tinctures. They help people with pain—physical and mental—as well as a plethora of other health issues. They just unveiled an official Rap Snack as well (Gumbo-flavored). The hip company also announced their most recent collab with UFC Champion boxer Gervonta "Tank" Davis for Ape Shit Gumbo. Collaborating with some of the biggest people in today's culture is nothing new to them either. They have released products with Lil Meech, N.O.R.E, Dex Lauper, Kodak Black, and Moneybagg Yo.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Karim Butler, the CEO, and Alexis Major, the CFO, of the company about these exciting new developments within the company, as well as who they are.

Interview:

What does Gumbo mean to y’all?

Karim: Gumbo means my life. My breath. My soul. That’s what Gumbo means to me. My everything. What does Gumbo mean to you?

Alexis: Gumbo means a lot of hard work, dedication, focus, and reaching my goals.

Tell us more about your brand and what y’all do and stand for?

Alexis: Gumbo is a family business and we also promote other family businesses. Empowering our community in the cannabis space.

Karim: What we do is we empower the community and the culture. That’s what we do. We give people financial freedom and generational wealth. So it’s not about us bein’ multi-millionaires, it’s about makin’ everybody else, uplift them. And let them know that they can do it. And the word impossible just means:

Together: I am possible.

Karim: We have because we give, therefore we will never, ever, ever be without. And that’s what Gumbo is, and that’s what it means to us.

How and when did y’all get into the cannabis industry?

Alexis: In 2018 we got into cannabis. We’ve both always been into cannabis, but officially, 2018.

Cannabis companies Gumbo and Cookies joint venture.

When did y’all get linked with Cookies, tell us more about that.

Alexis: We got linked in with cookies about a year and a half to two years ago. Burner was fighting cancer and he reached out to us and he said: “Listen, I really have seen you guys hustle. And you know, you’ve put in all the work and I would really love to partner with you guys. And we were just so impressed by that, because, you know, he had bigger fish to fry with his life. And he came back for others, so that says a lot about his character.

Karim: So that’s what we do, we go back and we do the same for other people. We pay it forward. You know, it’s too many people in this life that are parasitic. And Alexis and I, we’re symbiotic. We’re the organism that everyone benefits off of. Instead of being a parasite, parasitic, with just 1 organism that just benefits off the thing. So we make sure that everyone benefits off our organism, which is Gumbo. We have the biggest artists out, we have Moneybagg Yo with Shot Off Gumbo, we have Kodak Black with Smacka Gumbo, we just signed Gervonta Davis with Ape Shit Gumbo. And we’re just gonna keep goin’ up. Just scratchin’ the surface right now. My wife just signed Max B. And we have another big artist that we can’t say cause the ink isn’t dry right now. But we’re just gonna keep puttin’ on for the culture.

How did y’all get connected with Moneybagg Yo, YTB Fatt, and Kodak Black?

Karim: It’s all organic bro. Everyone knows Gumbo, we’re not like other brands that pay people 200-250k to make a strand with them. People come to us, and then it’s a family thing. That’s why we call it Gumbo, we put it in a pot, and we stir real slow. And it’s good, and it’s wholesome, for your soul.

What inspired you to host the big 4/20 Pop-Up and Show?

Alexis: We always do a big pop-up for the culture. And this year, with our relationship with Moneybagg Yo, we just thought it was sufficient to do a whole concert. We wanted to introduce his new artist, his new music, and it just so happened when we started talking about doing it, a lot of other performers were like: “Yo, I’ll come out and do that!” So it was just, again, an organic thing, and you know even to the last minute Fat Joe called us yesterday and was like, “Hey, how come you guys didn’t ask me to come perform?” So like I said, it’s a vibe with us and people just want to hang. Even though Joe doesn’t smoke but he’s our brother, and he wanted come out and hang and perform for the crowd and for the people.

What do y’all have in store for the future, regarding artists, brands, etc.?

Alexis: Tomorrow we launch the first Rap Snack that’s being with not just a cannabis company, but also, the first people that have a Rap Snack that aren’t rappers.

Together: And it has nothing to do with cannabis.

Alexis: It’s a good potato chip and we get the munchies and it’s Gumbo flavored. And you know if you look at most of the smoke shops now they all have Munchies in ‘em and we just wanted to be on shelf. And give people that were experiencing that medicine something to eat.

Check out their shop and grab some of their dope stuff now!
